Stories collected during field research sessions can take many forms,
But are generally any type of discourse that tells a story.
The collection of this type of data usually takes the form of recording stories, fairytales and legends, memories, etc …
This type of data does not represent any particular difficulty to obtain and provides a lot of useful information on the language.
Like the meaning of certain words or expressions (semantics) or the way of structuring a narrative or sentence (syntax),
or the way the language sounds (phonology).
However, this type of data alone shows its own limits in documenting the linguistic uses and practices of a community,
because it represents, in fact, most often only one speech register of the language,
when in general, a language has many.
